5 Ways to Detox Through the Skin
I usually (always) say that the number one most important and best way to detox is through the bowels. The bowels are the body’s garbage disposal, and the best way to get rid of toxins. You should always make sure to have at least 2 easy, soft bowel movements per day. But of course, when fighting Candida or when you’re sick or simply living life in the modern world, simply pooping well probably will not cut it.
So, I’d like to offer you 5 ways to detox through the skin. Encouraging the performance of your second biggest detox route can really help to reduce die off symptoms and skin rashes.
It’s important to break a sweat 3-4 times per week. This can really help toxins that are hanging out just below the surface to clear out of the body. Infrared sauna is a great way to encourage sweating.
Infrared sauna actually checks 2 boxes for me.
√ Clearing skin through sweat.
√ Stress relief.
You can just sit in this hot, dry, tiny room all alone for 15-20 minutes and listen to music or a meditation. Whatever you want.
It’s heaven. And it heats you from the inside out and helps you to sweat out so many toxins!
It’s my favorite combo of stress relief and detox!
Exercise is another great way to break a sweat! You can do yoga, hot yoga, walk, jog, or do a spin class.
We don’t usually think of this kind of sweating as releasing toxins from the body, but it does just that!
If you’re terribly fatigued because of a Candida overgrowth, just start out with a short, brisk walk 3-4 times this week. You will start to notice a difference.
Epsom salt bath
Taking an Epsom salt bath is another one of my favorite things to do! Besides the amazing way the hot water and the Epsom salt pulls toxins out through the skin, it’s just delicious to take some time for myself once in a while in a hot bath.
To take your Epsom salt bath to the next level, add clove essential oil to the salt before putting it in the water.
*Do not add the clove oil directly to the water.* Clove is a hot oil, and if it’s not soaked into the salt and dispersed through the water that way, it will just float on top of the water, in one spot, and it might burn on the skin.
But if it soaks in the salt first, it will be properly dispersed through the water and just add a little heat and help you sweat, which is the goal!
It’s nice to listen to a meditation while doing this. My favorite meditation app is called Insight Timer. You can choose from many different narrators, styles and meditation lengths.
While I personally know this thing about meditation, and I love it, I usually watch something on my Hulu like The Handmaid’s Tale or A Million Little Things. I have myself a tiny “brain check out session” while the toxins exit my body through my skin. Lovely…
Take 1 tbsp organic coconut oil or sesame oil and swish it around your mouth and through your teeth for 15-20 minutes once every day. This can help to pull toxins from your body and also is said to help bad breath and kill harmful bacteria. Yay!
Cider and Clay Face Mask
Use a face mask with equal parts apple cider vinegar and bentonite clay. If the texture is too thick, you may add filtered water. Spread this mixture on your face and let it sit for 15-30 minutes before washing it off.
